WHAT WE BELIEVE

We affirm both the Apostle’s Creed and the Nicene Creed. These are two expressions of what followers of Jesus have believed for centuries, and lay out the essentials of the Christian faith: Believing in God the Father (YHWH, the God of the Hebrew Bible and New Testament Scriptures, the Creator of all things), believing in God the Son (Jesus as both Savior and Lord of all), believing in God the Holy Spirit (God with us today, living in and through the Church of Jesus), and other specifics.

Our affirmation of what they teach leads us to actively pursue following Jesus today, loving and worshiping God the Father, Son, and Spirit in thought, word, and action. This love and worship of God is chiefly displayed in how we treat one another, our neighbors, and our enemies.

The Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
He descended to the dead.
On the third day He rose again;
He ascended into heaven,
He is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is,
seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through Him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven,
was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary
and was made man.
For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
He suffered death and was buried.
On the third day He rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and His kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
Who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
Who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
Who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.
Amen

HOW WE WALK IT OUT

The 3 streams

The Spirit of God gives our most precious gift: life. An existence full of opportunity.

If you want to know and live it to the full, drinking from Jesus, the source of Living Water – receiving all His Spirit offers us – that’s the path to life to the full.

Scripture — The mind and will of God is revealed to us through our people’s story, through poetry, and through instruction. God set this down for us through our spiritual ancestors so we wouldn’t have to wander in anxious toil, without knowledge of purpose. He gives us His Word to guide our steps in the way of His shalom – loving Him and neighbor as self.

The Sacraments — There are 2 ways to experience the sacraments: Baptism and Eucherist- both of which are ways that we celebrate life in Christ.

Four Core Commitments

Belong — Anyone can be a part of our community as long as they’ll be safe for the members. You might not yet believe all that we confess, but you’ll be loved and welcomed here nonetheless.

Grow — That said, we’re followers of Messiah Jesus. He’s our Rabbi, the One we follow. So our hope is that you’ll experience His presence here, and grow to love and follow Him alongside us.

Serve — As this happens, your leaves green up and you bear the fruit of loving and serving God, one another, and our neighbors around us, alongside us. You’ll help us build one another up in Christ — in Love.

Go — Then, as you go throughout your life, and as we walk out life together, we’ll be that sacred, thin space where others can belong, grow, and serve as well.

Our Rhythms

Mend — For generations the Church has been plagued by fear, and the fallout’s been traumatic. So many folks who come to St Mags have known very real hurt in and through the church. It’s tragic. So a frontline way we love and serve one another is by being a safe place where people can mend — be healed by Jesus. Stories are unique and pain’s universal, so we go slowly, taking time to attend to wounds. Our Rabbi did this often when He walked the earth and He does it still — to and through us.

Mentor — As we mend and begin to find footing, we mentor. We help folks learn to reach out to God through the streams, to learn God’s will through His Word, and to be nourished by God through the Sacraments.

Make — As this continues, we stay curious with one another about what creative contributions we can all make together — personally and as a community- learning to love our neighbors with our gifts of time, talent, and treasure.

All of this we do in the presence and power of God’s Spirit.
